Alan Pert

Alan Pert is Professor and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne. He is also Chair of the Hallmark Research Initiative for Affordable Housing. In parallel to his academic roles Pert has also run design practices in the UK, winning the title of RIBA Young Architect of the Year in 2006. As NORD Architecture, Pert led the design of the permanent Furniture Galleries for the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in 2010. His ‘Shingle House’ for Living Architecture reached the RIBA Manser Medal shortlist for ‘House of the Year’ and the Primary Substation for London Olympic Park was included in the long list for the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2012. ‘South Block’ Artist Studios then won the Doolan Prize in 2013. Pert curated an exhibition on the works of Graeme Gunn at Hamilton Gallery in March 2025. He co-edited a book with Professor Philip Goad, on the history and projects of Merchant Builders. Published by Melbourne University Press. As Deputy Dean, Pert is also overseeing the development of the new Design and Engineering Campus at Fishermans Bend which forms part of a new State Government innovation precinct.
