A Tale of Two Motels

A Tale of Two Motels

David Yencken

A Tale of Two Motels: The times, the architecture and the architects is part memoir, part commentary on the development of a new industry in Australia, and part tribute to the work of two architects, John Mockridge and Robin Boyd, both outstanding designers of their generation.

The book describes the coming into being of the Mitchell Valley Motel in Bairnsdale and the Black Dolphin Motel in Merimbula, two modernist designs praised in architectural reviews of the times. A Tale of Two Motels concludes with a brief commentary on the work of the two architects.

The Foreword to the book is written by Philip Goad, Professor of Architecture at The University of Melbourne.
